Article Indexes

You can search for individual articles that have been published in academic journals and other periodicals.

  • The Architectural Index

  • The Getty Information Institute includes the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals and RILA, the International repository of Art Literature.

  • For Newspapers online check the Internet Public Library for listings.

  • IngentaConnect Article Access & Delivery (formerly "Uncover") boasts a database of current article information taken from many thousands of multi disciplinary journals. It contains brief descriptions of millions of articles. Just searching for titles is free, and you can usually locate the actual journal articles at a local library. IngentaConnect also offers the convenient service of faxing articles to you for a fee. Some of the cost covers copyright fees, so authors and editors get their fair share. Be wary of sending your credit card number over the internet; the liability is yours and will not be covered by the limitation of liability guaranteed by your credit card company. Sending a check or money order by snail mail to keep an account with Uncover would be more prudent.

A number of universities have excellent index collections online but they are password protected so that only students and faculty can use them. Indexes on CD-ROM, such as the Art Index may also be available at your library, but not online. Check if your university provides such a service.
